🐶 Bart, Eddie, Rooney, Jim and the rest of the pets at the Middletown NY Humane Society are about to get a fresh shipment of food, treats and toys, thanks to the efforts of our George F. Baker High School Students. 🐱 Members of the NHS/NJHS, Interact Club and Student Council led a district wide collection drive to benefit the no-kill, privately run, supporter funded animal shelter. Yesterday, students gathered in Ms. Jones’ classroom to box up the items before they are shipped off to Middletown. 🐦 If you are interested in adopting a pet, check out their website (middletownhumanesociety.com) or Facebook page (they even have birds and hamsters)!

Spring has sprung across Tuxedo thanks to our George F Baker High School and George Grant Mason Elementary artists. Art teacher Mark Stankiewicz and three students added a bit of color and fun across town, painting windows up and down Route 17, between GGM and Hunan Gardens. Take a look, and don’t forget to visit these businesses and thank them for their support!

aging Principal Givens... George Grant Mason Elementary Fifth Grader Thatcher Givens traded in his book bag for a briefcase this morning and began his role as school principal. Givens got the job after collecting the most minutes read during last month’s “Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) contest.” Since he was only signed to a one day contract, Mr. Givens didn’t waste anytime getting to work. Joined by Principal Emeritus Ms. Terlecky, Givens began the day by greeting students, faculty and administration. At 8:38 AM, before entering the Pre-K classroom, Principal Givens remarked, “This has already been an exciting day!” But don’t be fooled, Givens eight long hours as Principal weren’t just filled with pleasantries and networking, there was important work to be done. During a mid-morning stop at George F. Baker High School, he sat down with Superintendent White to review the Elementary School’s budget ahead of tonight’s Board of Education Budget Work Session meeting. He also met with his colleague Principal Reese before making a quick stop at Ms. Castellanos’ classroom to visit his older brother and ensure Bromley was hard at work in Spanish class. After a storied career at George Grant Mason Elementary, Principal Givens starts his retirement tomorrow. He will spend his golden years in fifth grade before making the move up north to sixth grade. Welcome, thank you, congratulations, good bye and good luck Thatcher! #principalsofinstagram #principalsoffice #principallife #Principal #PrincipalfortheDay #PrincipalForADay #principalforaday #principalfortheday

🌱And now this important environmental message from our George Grant Mason Elementary Pre-K class: don’t just recycle, reuse! 🐠 Our youngest students got a jump start on Earth Month (April) during an afternoon STEM lesson on reducing waste. Ms. Klimowich started by demonstrating to the class what happens when trash or plastic is left behind. First she dropped some toy fish in a vase and then had everyone crumple up a small piece of paper. After placing all ten pieces in the vase, there was barely any room for the fish! Students quickly discovered that what we leave behind impacts our environment. Take the packaging left over from recently purchased Plus-Plus blocks; it could be recycled, but Ms. K realized the small containers make the perfect planters for small hands. So let's get to work! ♻️ Ms. K walked our budding environmentalists through the process of carefully adding rocks and soil to their containers before dropping in the seed of sugar snap pea plant. Then ever so delicately, students added droplets of water before placing them in a bin by the window. 🌎 Hopefully in time for Earth Day, they will have their very own plant, and an important reminder about reusing!

Goody Gumdrops! Check out the sweet sculptures our George F. Baker High School Students put together during Monday’s PACE Period. The STEM activity tasked these budding builders to construct a tall, free-standing structure, only using gumdrops and toothpicks. After selecting the foundation of their creation, groups began poking and prodding at the candy to begin their confectionary climb. Some students, like Senior Parker Givens, needed a tape measure and desk to stand in order to get the exact heigh of their tower. Each week, the PACE period provides an opportunity for our GFB classes to break away from their schedule for Presentations, Activities, Collaborations and Events.
