Scholarship Award Recipients

Congratulations to five outstanding George F. Baker High School juniors who were recently recognized with prestigious college scholarship awards! School Counselor Chris Oliva and Assistant Superintendent and High School Principal Jared Kahmar had the honor of presenting the following students with these distinguished recognitions:

Christopher Ahart was named the 2025 Rensselaer Medal recipient and also received the University of Rochester’s Bausch and Lomb Science Award. The Rensselaer Medal, awarded annually to one student per high school, recognizes exceptional achievement in mathematics and science. Medalists who apply to, are admitted to and enroll at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are eligible for a $40,000-per-year scholarship. In addition, Christopher received the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, which honors outstanding academic achievement and exceptional intellectual promise in the field of science.

Logan Saari-Poznanski was honored with the 2025 Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award and the University of Rochester’s Xerox Award. Presented by the Parents Club of West Point on behalf of the United States Military Academy, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award recognizes high school juniors who exemplify the leadership qualities and ideals upheld by West Point. Since 1802, West Point has developed leaders of character who serve in both military and civilian roles and this award celebrates students who show similar promise. Logan was also selected to receive the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology, which recognizes students who demonstrate a strong interest and aptitude in innovative thinking, along with an appreciation for the possibilities of technology.

Sarah Cruz Granillo received the University of Rochester’s George Eastman Award, which honors a student who demonstrates exceptional leadership and shows strong potential to join the university’s tradition of excellence.

Kayleigh Donnelly was awarded the University of Rochester’s Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award, named in honor of two of Rochester’s most influential social justice pioneers. This award recognizes students who demonstrate a strong commitment to understanding and addressing complex social issues.

Abdullah Khan received Clarkson University’s Leadership Award, which honors students who demonstrate strong leadership potential. Recipients who apply to, are accepted at and choose to enroll at Clarkson University will qualify for a $100,000 tuition scholarship, awarded as $25,000 per year over four years.

Mr. Kahmar expressed his pride in each of the award recipients and recognized the dedication it took to earn these honors. “There is no doubt in my mind that this is just the beginning of all these scholars will accomplish in the years to come.”
