Choir and Band at Groundbreaking Ceremony

Earlier this week, the Tuxedo Union Free School District took part in an exciting event marking a turning point in the future of our school community: the official groundbreaking of the Tuxedo Reserve development. The ceremony marked the beginning of a long-anticipated residential project expected to reshape the local landscape.

Tuxedo students played a central role in the ceremony, providing entertainment for the event. Representatives from the fourth, fifth and sixth grade select chorus, under the direction of music teacher Sam Johnson, opened the ceremony with a stirring rendition of the national anthem. Later, select members of the GFB band and music teacher Clayton Chan joined freshman vocalist Elena Haimerl to energize the crowd with Piel Canela, a lively number featured in the school’s recent spring music concert.

The audience included town, county and state officials, representatives from the project's builders—Lennar Corporation and the developer, Related Properties—as well as members of the local community. Mitch Newman, vice president of land at Lennar, announced that the first phase—featuring a mix of single-family homes and townhouses—is expected to be completed by fall 2025.

TUFSD Superintendent Jeff White expressed excitement about the monumental impact the development will have on the district’s future. “This marks the beginning of a significant transformation for the Tuxedo community and our school district. We look forward to the growth this development will bring and to welcoming new students to our campus.”

The Tuxedo Reserve is projected to bring over 300 new students to the district over the next 11 years, ushering in a new chapter of opportunity and growth for both the school and the town it serves.
