Mary Dixon and Matt Takeuchi

April 26 is Administrative Professionals Day, an opportunity to say thank you to the front office staff of the District working tirelessly each day to keep things running smoothly. It also provides us a chance to shine the spotlight on Mary Dixon and Matt Takeuchi, two vital members of the Tuxedo school community.

Dixon, from George Grant Mason Elementary, and Takeuchi, from George F. Baker High School took the time to answer some questions about their roles here at TUFSD.

How long have you been working at Tuxedo UFSD?

Takeuchi:  I have been employed at the Tuxedo UFSD for 25 years

Dixon: 9 and a half years

What is the most rewarding part of your position?

Dixon: The most rewarding part of my job is any time I get to spend with the students. It’s always a joy to be with them.

Takeuchi: The most rewarding part of my position is working with the students in a variety of capacities, and watching them grow to become the best versions of themselves.

The both of you are seen as an integral part of operations at GFB and GGM. What do you feel is the most important aspect of your job?

Takeuchi: Rather than citing one particular aspect, I would say that the ability to problem solve is of vital importance.  Various needs and issues “pop up” every day and often occur at the same time or are time sensitive in nature.  Therefore prioritizing, knowledge of systems and having various tools at my disposal to handle or assist with handling an issue are paramount.

Dixon: Managing the logistics of the daily operations of the school is probably the most important aspect of my job. Making sure the faculty, staff, and students have the time, tools, and support they need to succeed on a daily basis.

What makes TUFSD a unique place to work?

Takeuchi: Tuxedo is unique in many ways.  If I had to choose just one of those ways, I would say that the faculty and staff here are intrinsically motivated and dedicated to the students.  We all go above and beyond the call of duty and “wear many hats” in order to give them our very best.

Dixon: The school community is unique. It is a pleasure to work with our faculty, staff, students, and families. I am happy to come to work each day because I enjoy being around everyone here.

What do you look forward to most each school year?

Dixon: Read Across America and Spirit week. I love to see the kids in their clever costumes and theme outfits (and to participate myself!)

Takeuchi: There is a lot to look forward to every year and at different points during that year.  Obviously, the return of the students in September is exciting.  As the basketball coach, I also look forward to the season.  I would also say that the spring-time is nice because of all the awards and recognitions that the students receive, as well as the ceremonies, events and graduation.

What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?

Dixon: Reading on the beach

Takeuchi: I’m fairly simple when it comes to the summer.  Even though I work through July and August, it tends to be quieter and that allows me to do a lot of the prep-work for the coming school year.  Other than that, I like the weather and try to get to the shore at least once.

What was your favorite subject in school?

Dixon: English

Takeuchi: Biology

Thanks Mary and Matt! And you be sure to thank them if you see them today.
