basketball teams

Congratulations to our Tuxedo Tornadoes basketball program. The Varsity and Junior Varsity squads have been awarded with the team Sportsmanship Award for the 2022-2023 school year by the Orange County Basketball Official’s Association.

The prestigious distinction is given to one school each year for a team’s proactive approach towards positivity on and off the court. Coaches Matt Takeuchi, Emily Dowling and Michelle Hines were joined by School Board President Joe Rickard, interim athletic director Marco Margotta and Principals Reese and Terlecky for the banner presentation at the John P. Mottola Gymnasium last Thursday.

For the third time since 2014, the George F. Baker teams were selected to receive the award among all high schools in Nysphsaa Section IX, which includes Ulster and Sullivan Counties.

“Section IX places a great deal of emphasis on sportsmanship and it is wonderful to see the players buy into this ideal,” says Varsity Coach Matt Takeuchi. Takeuchi also noted this honor not only shows the character of our student-athletes, but their families and everyone who “played a role in their upbringing.”

Congratulations!
