O&R

Congratulations to Mariah Klimowich and Marco Margotta for each receiving a STEM Classroom Grant from the Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. Education Advisory Council. This marks the eighth year in a row that George F. Baker has earned the award and the fifth year for George Grant Mason, amounting to a grand total of $13,000 given by O&R in support of TUFSD's STEM program to date. The Grant is given to educators at schools pre-K to grade 12 and youth groups in communities located within O&R’s service area to support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education through classroom projects and professional development for teachers.

GGM STEM teacher Mariah Klimowich plans to use the grant for a “Powering Boats with Solar Energy” project with her students. “It will allow students to gain practical knowledge, as well as develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry skills essential for solving real-world problems.”

Preparing children to find success in their future careers, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning builds skills that extend beyond those needed in traditional science fields.

TUFSD is at the forefront of STEM education as the first New York State school district to earn National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) certification from the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE) at both the elementary and high school levels.

Mariah and Marco will be honored at the O&R STEM Classroom Grant Reception later this month.
